HE Supports Rally for Rangers
It may not be heavy enduro, but it’s a heavy mission
We’re excited to support Heavy Enduro’s own Susan | @sdotzero as she goes on her first expedition. In May 2022, Susan will join fellow motorcyclist Kirsten and Rally for Rangers in delivering new motorcycles to two women park rangers in Peru.
Every year, our planet sees increasing rates of deforestation, carbon emissions, and threats to endangered wildlife. In the last 30 years alone, we have lost one billion acres of forest to illegal logging, illicit agriculture, and other forms of destruction. In national parks across the globe, there are dedicated rangers who devote their lives to preserving Earth's last remaining wild spaces. Many of these rangers use motorcycles to traverse challenging terrain and reach remote locations, tracking down illegal poaching, logging, and agricultural operations. Using motorcycles, rangers can reach locations in a matter of hours that otherwise would take days or weeks on foot. And in many cases, motorcycles allow for access to remote areas that trucks cannot reach. Motorcycles are essential tools for this conservation work; however, as new park rangers join the effort and existing fleets reach the end of their lifespans, these rangers find themselves in need of new equipment.
Since 2015, the nonprofit Rally for Rangers (RfR) has been partnering with national parks around the world to provide park rangers with fleets of new motorcycles. RfR riders raise funds to purchase and deliver motorbikes, which the rangers then use to patrol their National Parks. So far, RfR has delivered 150 motorcycles to rangers across Mongolia, Nepal, Bhutan, Argentina, and Chile. In 2022, they will host their first expedition in Peru. For each expedition, RfR selects a small group of dedicated riders to deliver the bikes to park rangers. The group rides the motorcycles from the closest major city, out to the remote locations in which the rangers work. By delivering the bikes directly to the rangers, RfR ensures that the rangers do not have to take precious time away from their conservation work and their families in order to receive the donations.
